Nommad's "Dream
Archives" Forum / Archives: 2004, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09 Spiritscape combines and enhances all the best ideas and themes from the fantasy dreams I've made in Furcadia since 2004 to create a highly interactive and persistant RPG environment that pushes the limits of what can be done with Dragonspeak, Phoenixspeak and Kitterspeak. You'll find it loaded in AI at 36,38 midway down the path from "Stonehenge". Nommad's Ramblings 7/19/10: Spaced Out! It's been awhile since I posted any updates or news here. That's because there hasn't really been anything new and significant to post. Spiritscape is running along great on it's own with very minor updates that I post in the Spiritscape forum and enough new and old players coming by to justify keeping the dream package and keeping it loaded in AI. So what's the News? After 2 years of not entering anything in a dream contest I've got inspired to create another Space Adventure. I've been wanting to create another Space / Sci-Fi for a long time and this festival got me fired up to do it and I've been wound up in a knot ever since. It was the actual mechanics and ship interface that fired me up more than anything. But, since it was for a festival crowd I tried to focus on the audience by creating an actual storyline (with no fighting!) and designing it so it could be completed in less than an hour (or faster). I didn't think I was going to meet the deadline since I didn't really decide to do it until after the 4th of July. But it is submitted now and a webpage for it is in the works complete with a walkthrough that can get you through it in about 15 minutes. Now, it's Time to Relax! 3/31/10: Spiritscape: Legacy The coding of Spiritscape has reached a point it's almost impossible to add anything else even though I always have things I want to add or change. I wasn't able to add the Clan system I'd imagined due to the DS line limit of 10000 but was able to add a few game features to the Castle of Kings. I would say there will be no more changes and this is the final build but I know myself well enough that if any idea strikes me that I can squeeze into the code I just might try it. The players and regulars have grown so much that inactive players will be automatically trimmed out of the PS database to make room for new players. With just a timeline and basic framework of themes, (based on the dreams that are the foundation of Spiritscape and the players that have made an impact on it's development) the History and Legacy of Spiritscape has been and always will be all about the players and their interaction with each other and the environment. 2/25/10: Spiritscape: Myths and Legends Spiritscape has expanded to the limits of a Dream Package. Map, DS and PS database. With over 700 accounts that have been saved since I've been running the dream package, there has been a "bleed-over" the 500kb max that shuts down the dream. I've done major trimming of inactive accounts and added DS that will automatically clear out accounts after 90 days inactivity. The actual DS limit is 10000 lines and I've hit that once again, though I still plan to find somewhere I can trim enough lines for a game using the new Castle of Kings location. The Castle of Kings can be reached through Mythic Grotto in the mountains. On top of the Sky Tower in the castle I've added a sky view that can range from clear skys to very overcast and cloudy. The color of the sky changes with the time of day and the sun and moon pass by according to the time of day. (dream time). 1/10/10: Spiritcape Evolution Continues: I never seem to get bored of adding, changing and improving Spiritscape and I've been inspired to develop even more this year. The first changes are compatible with the current client (cool new client update scheduled soon) I'm thinking of calling "Myths and Legends". The foundations of it shake up the "Clan" mechanics as they are now in preparation for the New Client and a system to allow Players to create their own clans. In the meantime Clans are being replace with Alignment (Chaos and Order) and the Dragon and Phoenix are now Mythic Spirits which will include all the Mythical Avatars as well as a New Area I'm calling the Mountain of Myths. Players like the Nobles so much, I've added another way to have access to the Avatar(s). The "Spirit Blessing" you recieve after defeating your Dark Spirit is now "The Noble Spirit" and clicking it will transform you into a Noble. (I plan on using the Human Noble eventually with the possible distinction between wizard and warrior as well as male and female.) I'm also developing a soccer like game I'm calling "Skull Ball" as well as a long list of ideas still
stewing....How will Chaos and Order work you ask? Still working this out a bit, but it's a concept I've played with before. Rather than try explain and develop the "storyline" concepts here Chaos and Order do not represent Good and Evil or Dark and Light but ideas like Offense and Defense. Chaos Activates the Strength Spell and Order Activates the Regeneration Spell. Temporarily Chaos and Order will gain Exp and Levels rather than Clans and the proper Altar will give you your Alignment (Clan) Bonus. The Clan Plan: (if I can pull it off) Will be to allow Players to Create their own Clans (similar to what I did in Starfighters in '06) then recode Clan Bonuses to apply to player created Clans. |
